Eurovision 2011 - What I Thought

May 14th was the best day for Britain! - for us to cringe and bring up how crap we do in competition as it was time for Eurovision! This year the United Kingdom were sending ex-chart topping boyband "Blue" with their song "I Can", with a bye already to the final I decided to tune into the second semi final 2 days before to watch our rivals and music's answer to Marmite - Jedward representing Ireland, that's right JEDWARD!

Jedward took the stage with their song "Lipsitck" and the crowd loved them, Europe agreed and sent them into the Grand Final competing against Blue, the fight between UK vs Ireland was on!
I tuned in on the Saurday and watched the entire programme, the openeing I believed was fantastic as the presenter and last year's victor - Lena of Germany sang a jaunted up version of last years winning song "Saterlite". Jedward took to the stage sixth and the rest of country braced themselves for what the outcome with be, surprisingly they were better than their semi-final performance, although their dancing is out of time, but to be fair most of the dancers in all the countries were. Blue took to the stage 14th and did themsleves and us proud, for once I was not embrassed by our entry and thought we were going to be bottom of the leaderboard.

The competition was hard as so many countires stepped up their game and any country could've taken the title, but once the voting started, it got all the more exciting. After 4 countries Britiain were joint top with 30 points after a strong start with 10 points and then a whopping 12 points from Bulgaria, unfortunately they were our only times in the top three of the voting countries and slowly faded off pace, just as Jedward began to pick up steam and became a force as they recieved back-to-back 12 points from Britain and Denmark and raced up to 4th.

At the halfway stage Sweden had the lead with Denmark and Ukraine in close contention, but that all changed, Italy and Azerbijian slowly racked up the points and took the top spots, with Azerbijian pulling away, this was one of the cloest votings in years. But after all the points were totaled up, Azerbijian, one of the favourites emerged victorious with 221 points, then I had a thought - Azerbijian aren't even Europe! but oh well all-in-all it was a good night, with the only downside being Ireland beating the United Kingdom was we took 11th place and Jedward came 8th - a great year and looking forward to it all over again in Azerbijian (in whatever city they use to host things events)

Britain Does Variety

Hey everyone in my last post, I said I would be talking about something called "Britain Does Variety" and its time to reveal all on what that exactly means.

Britain Does Variety is a nationwide competition to find the UK's best variety act, from jugglers to jazz players, singers to swordsmen, the competition to anyone, so me thinking "Why not?" went along on St George's Day to the final auditions, which were in Aldershot (lucky for me), I did my routine, but was so nervous I had to leave early during the judges comments and was ill. I was able to return to hear the rest of their comments, with thankully were very nice and positive. However I still had the agonising wait to hear if I got though, thankfully it was good news and made it to the South East Regional Final.

I will be competing on Saturday and very much looking foward to it, I shall be competing against 24 other variety acts all hoping for a spot in the Grand Final whilst shall be on the 11th June in Kettering, I have no idea what to expect, but got my friends coming along, hoping they shall be very loud (hint hint :P) and supportive, if I make the final I don'ty know how I'll react, all I know got to go though the stress all over again.
Well heres hoping I do well and stay tuned for Monday when I'll post the results of the evening :)

My College Life

Yo everyone this is my first blog so please forgive if its a bit rambly and confusing :) Anyways in this blog I'm going to talk about the one soul murdering word for all 16-18 years olds - College.

I am currently in my second year, and (sadly) shall be taking a third year at my college due to taking a year out to improve my GCSE grades intentionally. But I must say, it is slowly sucking the life out of me.
I guess I wouldn't mind it so much if the college wasn't so divided into groups and all the teachers were able to help myself and my friends inseatd of repeating themselves in their unknown, foriegn jargon and the college recieved such bad comments from the pupils, but looking back, some of the comments have been justified. We are constantly hounded for breaking things within the Sixth Form (chairs mainly) yet they do nothing to change it, instead they fork out on a SECOND flat screen television for the common room, now why spend God knows how much on that, right before exams and you want students to study and revise? They clearly won't and safe to say a fair few have already ditched the books for the screen. It's gotten so bad in my college, with the bad teachers, it's become a cycle, one of my friends can come in frustrated after a lesson and can almost instantly name the person responsible, again this is not helping if we've got exams which as they put "decide the rest of your life".

Now I am very fortunate and do not have to partake in the joys of exams and revision or these apparently horribe teachers, but nonetheless, college is still a place heavily divided into groups, but that is to be expected, but I wouldn't mind if some of the groups made an effort to mix and join in instead of isolating themselves and leaving it at that, but hey ho, can't force to do something they don't want to do.

That's all for now, cheers for reading and make to check for my next blog: "Britain Does Variety" what does that mean? Check back next time to find out.
